Manchester United are set to sign Manuel Ugarte on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain with the clubs close to an agreement over a €60million (£51m) move.

Ugarte is eager to make the move to Old Trafford this summer with the midfielder thought to have agreed personal terms in July.

United made it clear earlier this month they would not meet PSG’s initial demands of €70m for the Uruguay international but the two clubs have remained in talks in attempts to thrash out a deal.

A permanent transfer this summer and a loan deal which would include an obligation to buy next year have both been discussed.

Le Parisien now report a deal which will see Ugarte join United o a permanent basis this summer is close to being completed.

United will pay £51m for the 23-year-old, a fee very close to the one PSG parted with only last summer to sign him from Sporting Lisbon.

While there are some details still to be finalised, the move is now expected to be completed in the coming days.

After arriving in Paris last year, Ugarte saw his first-team opportunities dwindle as the 2023-24 season wore on.

The arrival of Joao Neves from Benfica has pushed him further down the pecking order with PSG boss Luis Enrique leaving him out of his squad for the opening game of the season against Le Harve on Friday night.

United have made four signings this summer with Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui joining the club but an addition in midfield has also been a top priority in midfield.

Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro started at the heart of midfield in the opening game of the season against Fulham last Friday but options elsewhere in the middle of the park are slim.

Scott McTominay is wanted by Napoli with United are willing to let Christian Eriksen leave for £5m before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
