Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Hannibal Mejbri as Erik ten Hag’s side gear up for the long-awaited arrival of Manuel Ugarte.

United have been seeking to revamp their central midfield options all summer, but are finally making progress in the final days of the transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Ugarte has agreed a deal to join Old Trafford having fallen out of favour at the Ligue 1 side.

The 23-year-old will be Ten Hag’s fifth signing of the window after defensive trio Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui as well as Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee.

The Red Devils have had to raise funds to finance their latest move, with Scott McTominay expected to depart for Serie A side Napoli in a move worth around £25m.

But United have also said goodbye to another midfielder, with 21-year-old Mejbri completing his permanent transfer to Championship side Burnley.

The youngster arrived at Old Trafford from Monaco in 2019 but made just 13 first-team appearances in five years at the club.

After an unsuccessful loan spell at Spanish side Sevilla last season, Mejbri returned to pre-season with United but the Tunisian has now completed a move to Scott Parker’s Clarets, signing on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

‘I’m very excited. Very happy to be here and I can’t wait to see the fans. I have played against Burnley before at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was amazing,’ Mejbri told the club’s website.

‘After speaking to the coach [Scott Parker] the project sounded good to me and hopefully we can make success.’

Mejbri could make his debut for the club at the weekend as the Clarets host local rivals Blackburn on Saturday.

Burnley have won two of their first three games under new boss Parker.
