Youssouf Fofana has agreed a four-year contract with AC Milan but Manchester United could still attempt to hijack a move for the France international.

United are eager to bring in at least one new midfielder this summer having already wrapped up deals for Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.

The club are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a move for Manuel Ugarte, who is valued at around £58million by the Ligue 1 champions.

United are also considering other options to strengthen in the middle of the park with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi another name under consideration.

But reports in France claim United are also keen on Monaco star Fofana.

AC Milan are eager to bring the 25-year-old to the San Siro and according to RMC Sport, have reached an agreement over a four-year contract.

The Rossoneri however are still to agree a fee with Monaco for a player who has just one year remaining on his contract.

United and another Champions League club remain interested in Fofana, according to the report, and are still weighing up a summer move despite that agreement with Milan.

Monaco were initially looking for a fee of around €25million for their midfielder with Sky Italia now reporting they will settle for around €18m.

United have long-standing issues in midfield which were thrown under the spotlight again last season as Casemiro suffered a worrying dip in form.

The Brazil international, who has two more years left on his contract, has been strongly linked with a  move to Saudi Arabia this summer but no formal offers have materialised at this stage.

Scott McTominay meanwhile has been the subject of interest from Fulham, who saw an offer rejected by United this week.

United have also declined to trigger their option to sign Sofyan Amrabat for €20million after his loan spell at the club last summer.
