Andre Onana clearly approves of Manchester United signing Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui after his reaction to the news went viral.

On Tuesday evening, United confirmed the arrival of the two defenders from Bayern Munich in a double deal worth up to £60million.

The Red Devils have paid £38.6m plus £4.3m in add-ons for De Ligt and £17.1m for Mazraoui, reuniting the pair with Erik ten Hag whom they played under at Ajax.

In fact, they become the fourth and fifth former Ajax players who worked under Ten Hag to sign for United in the past two years, following Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Onana.

And the latter couldn’t help but show his delight at the new arrivals, with the goalkeeper posting a video of himself wildly dancing on his Instagram story just minutes after the signings were announced.

Ajax themselves also reacted to the news, posting a cheeky message of their own on Twitter.

Centre-back Martinez meanwhile had a more measured response to the news, telling BBC Sport he was: ‘So excited about Matthijs, about Nouss.

‘We are here to help them and they are really good players. That’s why Manchester United bought them.

‘They will show that quickly because they have really good qualities and they like to play football and they are special for our system.

‘I think Matthijs will give us a strong personality, playing from the back, defending high. I can’t wait to play with him.’

United have also confirmed which squad numbers their new players will wear, with both in contention to play the opening game of the new Premier League season against Fulham on Friday night.

Centre-back De Ligt will wear the No.4 shirt which was vacated in the summer after Sofyan Amrabat’s loan came to an end and which was previously worn by the likes of Phil Jones, Owen Hargreaves and Nemanja Vidic.

Right-back Mazraoui meanwhile has taken the No.3 which had been vacant since 2022 when Eric Bailly left Old Trafford, and he has big shoes to fill with the shirt’s previously belonging to club legends Patrice Evra and Denis Irwin.
