Why Aaron Wan-Bissaka thinks swapping Man Utd for West Ham was ‘a no brainer’

Aaron Wan-Bissaka says moving to West Ham from Manchester United was a ‘no brainer’ and has hailed the togetherness, unity and team spirit in the Hammers squad.

The 26-year-old spent five seasons at Old Trafford after moving from Crystal Palace in 2019, making 190 appearances for the Red Devils.

With Erik ten Hag revamping his defence this summer, Wan-Bissaka was firmly on the transfer list and West Ham have snapped him up for a reported fee of £15m, with the full-back signing a seven year contract in east London.

Wan-Bissaka has, predictably, spoken very positively about joining the Hammers, although his effusive praise about the unity of the squad could be seen as a thinly veiled dig at the team he has just left.

‘It was a no brainer for me to join West Ham – I’m excited and happy to be here,’ said the defender.

‘It’s an amazing feeling to be back in London, and I’m excited for what’s coming. I was born here, so I know the ins and outs of London, which plays a big part in my life, so to be back playing in this city means a lot to me.

‘I’m happy to be here, am grateful for the warm welcome, and I am excited to be playing for the club and will give it my all.

‘I can’t wait to get on the pitch, get to know the players, and push on from there. I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win, and a group that has got each others’ backs through thick and thin, so being part of that and having that insurance helps a lot when you are surrounded by a good squad.’

West Ham have been busy in the transfer market this summer as new manager Julen Lopetegui puts together a new-look team.

Luis Guilherme, Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Guido Ramirez and Jean-Clair Todibo have all been brought in so far this summer as the Hammers look to challenge for European football under their new boss,

West Ham get their Premier League campaign underway on Saturday when they host Aston Villa in a 5.30pm kick-off.
